Following three successful seasons as Acting Principal Trumpet of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Karen Donnelly was unanimously appointed Principal Trumpet in October 1999. A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Karen completed her Bachelor of Arts in Music at the University of Regina, and continued studying at McGill University (Montreal) where she completed a Master of Music.
 
From 1994-1996, Karen played with Orchestra London(Canada) as Principal Trumpet. Since her arrival in Ottawa in 1996, Karen has also kept a busy schedule, performing many concerts for CBC (French and English) and participating in the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival.  As a member of the Rideau Lakes Brass Quintet, and a founding member of the Capital BrassWorks ensemble, she is active in many educational projects.  May 2008 brought the release of Karen's first solo recording, "Gabriel's Sister" with Capital BrassWorks.  In addition to performances with Capital BrassWorks and the full schedule of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Ms. Donnelly teaches at the University of Ottawa.
