Inner Circle Management has identified the potential for successful development in the area of cultural regeneration of heritage properties. Best practice models like the 401 Richmond Building and the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, the ArtsCourt Building in Ottawa, and the Crocus Building in Winnipeg are just a few of the examples of projects that have been successfully created and continue to be sustainable in Canada, as outlined in the study undertaken by Inner Circle Management on behalf of Regina ArtsAction Inc. This preliminary research indicated the potential in two downtown buildings in Regina:
~the Leader Building, 1853 Hamilton Street
~and the Royal Canadian Legion Regina Branch 001 buiding at 1820 Cornwall Street
While plans for the two buildings outlined in that document have progressed at different levels and with different results than originally anticipated, there is still plenty to rejoice in, largely due to the development of a strategic plan for Regina's downtown by the dynamic team at OfficeForUrbanism in Toronto, led by Jennifer Keesmat. Their diligent approach to ensuring the community of Regina has a say in developing the future vision for this city's centre has resulted in some key recommendations that are specific to Regina and possibly Saskatchewan.
This strategic plan could have a direct impact on the projects being proposed by Inner Circle Management. From the development of buildings to the production of annual outdoor and indoor cultural programming, many of the Inner Circle initiatives will be dependent on the outcome of these kinds of planning processes currently being carried out on not just for Regina's downtown, but on multiple levels of government ministries and agencies.
